that my ashes, my spirit, my words,
my love will live in new life fertilized by me.
I hope I’ll nurture the roots of a tree,
feeling singing birds in its branches.
I’d love to be heard in the song of a river
as it flows through mossy green forests.
I’m glad all the water I drank will be recycled
for flowers to drink in new gardens I’ll never see,
except in this evening’s dream of coming spring.
Snow falls in my sleep now,
as I long for cricket sounds, night’s comforting
music. I hope my aging, calcified bones
will nurture strength in children to be.
I long for an Earth of tomorrows,
where new beings might recall
the good things we’re made of,
born of exploding stars in this mysterious
life of sorrow, beauty, longing and love.
