Dee Shapiro is a painter who also writes and makes artists books. She has used a variety of media and bodies of work that include systemic patterning, city and landscapes, prints and redacted published books. Shapiro teaches studio art and art history at Empire State College SUNY, Old Westbury. Her poems and essays have been published in Heresies, Confrontation, Chiron Review as well as other small presses.

Dee Shapiro began her career as a pattern painter She has had exhibitions in New York and elsewhere since the late 1970’s. Solo and group exhibitions include AIR, The Andre Zarre Gallery Everson Museum, Nassau County Museum, Art 101, David Richard Gallery and other galleries and museums in the US and abroad. Her work is in the collection of the S.R. Guggenheim Museum, Heckscher Museum, Albright Knox Gallery, Birmingham Museum, William Louis-Dreyfus Family Collection, university, corporate and private collections.
